Site-specific performance in a domestic space

Choreographer & Performer: Siyuan Meng,Fruzsi Nagy
Composer: Barbi Toth

Eye to Eye, Space in the Space – Reflection of Each Other is a site-specific performance created for a domestic environment as part of Thresholds, an exhibition that invited artists to reimagine the home as a space of encounter, reflection, and transformation.

At its center is a single sheet of transparent glass: the glass connects us, gathers us together, and yet separates us. Carried by two performers, the glass becomes a mobile threshold—constantly redefining the room and reframing perception. Sometimes it creates a temporary “wall,” sometimes it reflects the audience back into the work, and sometimes it opens the possibility of meeting eye to eye.

The choreography unfolded through three sensorial modes: watching—the reciprocity of seeing and being seen; moving—the body reshaping the domestic room into shifting architectures; listening—sound as a signal of spatial tension. A live improvisation by a violinist extended these thresholds into vibration, resonance, and shared presence.

By situating performance within the intimacy of a home, the work questioned what holds us together and what keeps us apart. It explored the domestic as both shelter and threshold—a fragile site where private and public, connection and distance, coexist in the same space.
